WTJU has several five-minute public affairs programs. One of these shows may need an engineer, producer, writer, or on-air voice. Submit an idea for a Public Affairs Program
A public affairs program may have general or specific topics from week-to-week. It may be commentary, issue-driven, or informative. It may U.Va.-centric or community focused. WTJU currently has three public affairs programs and two have audio posted to the web. Please sample Rivanna Rambler or Oscar as you develop your own ideas. WTJU currently allots five minutes weekly for a each public affairs show. That time includes a brief voice-over-music intro and outro. A public affairs program should be non-specific enough that topics will last at least one year. Even a short public affairs program is labor intensive. A five minute show typically requires three pages of written content. Your writing and or speaking skills should be very good to excellent. WTJU will provide production training. Here are the steps to submitting an idea for a public affairs show:
- Fill out our standard application form (see below)
- Suggest idea(s) for a five-minute show.
- Write one sample show text: the text should be about 4:15 minutes which doesn't include the intro/outro.
- Include a list of future topics (at least 20)
